Farmworker Reality Tour in Watsonville

I have been to this once and its was quite moving to hear from the people who work in the fields harvesting our plants.

Here's what to expect based on my experience:

1. Drive to a small farm in Watsonville. We meet at 3pm but you can be late. We sit on a bench outside listening to a couple of farmworkers (likely through a translator) tell us how about their experiences. For people interested we can then pick berries or anything else in season from the fields for a charge. This is usually about an hour and a half.

2. Then we drive to temporary accommodation provided by the county to farm workers and see how they live and the struggles they and their families face during and once they have to vacate the premises after their work is done for the harvest season.

3. Then there's a burrito dinner provided by one of the hosts of the non profit organization "Center for Farmworker Families". However this is NOT vegan friendly. So our plan is to go to a place in downtown Santa Cruz.

We can set up carpools from South Bay. Please provide comments as to a good meeting point and also any suggestions for dinner in Santa Cruz.

For carpool from the South Bay I think its best we meet at 1:45pm at the Campbell Sports Basement on 1875 S Bascom Ave Suite 240, Campbell, CA 95008. Plenty of parking in the Pruneyard.

Afterwards dinner suggestion would be Veg on the Edge or Woodstock's pizza.
