Tide pool foraging, Lighthouse, Wild Bloom & Waves Photo Drive, Santa Cruz
Details
Volunteers & Friends, we are going coastal again, doing tide pool foraging and photo drive up highway 1 on this Feb 28th afternoon.
We went volunteering & tide pool foraging last weekend around Santa Cruz, and accidentally found that the wild mustard is starting its peak blossom season, and the drive up from Santa Cruz to Pescadero shows stunning views, yellow flowers on green meadows. It is said the blossom usually peaks around mid Feb and last only a few weeks, so this trip is more about coast photo drives.
As you have seen, our March tide pool foraging would be in the half moon bay Maverick beach area, because of a volunteering opportunity in the morning. We will return to Davenport Landing beach for April's tide pool.
Itinerary:
1:30pm Sat Feb 28th
- Shark Fin Cove Beach (Foraging allowed here)
- Waddell State Beach (Big Basin Redwoods State Park) -- burnt relic
- Pigeon Point Light House -- Striking view
- Pascadero sate beach -- waves
- Old town Pascadero, group dinner, weather depends.
We will stop and hike a bit about 1 hour at each place, find great view points, take photos, enjoy the view and move on to the next stop. So if you miss us at one place, just catch up with us at the next stop. We may also see sunset, enjoy a group dinner at the remote town Peacadero, depending on weather.
As usual, we will show how to do foraging, with an intro tour of the usual tide pool life. Though foraging is only allowed in the first stop, the others are all within protected marine areas.
Sports fishing License purchasable at below, you can download and print a copy with you. You will need that to forage from the beach.
