Join us for a Big Band Holiday Party at the Historic American Legion Hollywood Post 43. We'll be swinging and swaying to live 40's and 50's music in the Cabaret Room from 2:00-4:00 pm. This show will transport you to the Golden Age of Hollywood Nightclubs with a full 17-piece Big Band and two singers, performing the best of the Great American Songbook. With lots of holiday classics!

The Big Band Alumni has been a Los Angeles musical institution for over 25 years. The spotlight is on Big Band Jazz, Swing, and Classic Vocal Pop Standards - all performed to danceable tempos.

Formed by musicians who performed with the original "name" bands, such as Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Harry James, Count Basie, and Les Brown - The Big Band Alumni is today considered by many the premier Big Band in Southern California. Its members have performed with such pop icons as Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, and even Lady Gaga. Band leader and singer, Bill A. Jones, was in the cast of Glee, and female singer Nancy Osborn is herself Grammy nominated. She sang at the Avalon Ball this past May! A fabulous performance!

Hollywood Post 43 is part of The American Legion, dedicated to serving Veterans, Youth, and the Community. This historic hall - an Egyptian Revival architectural masterpiece, was built in 1929 - but the post was founded in 1919 by WWI veterans working in the motion picture industry. Over the years, members have included Hollywood luminaries like Clark Gable, Charlton Heston, Mickey Rooney, Gene Autry, Ronald Reagan, Stan Lee... and so many more. Free parking on site. Entrance fee $25 for this special holiday performance. If Post 43 runs out of parking spots, the Post 43 attendant will give you a pass to set on your dashboard viewable through the windshield to park at the Hollywood Heritage across the street. Try to arrive by 1:30. Usually, the parking lot is pretty empty at that time. The band starts promptly at 2 p.m., so you want to be inside and settled before the opening number.

Casual attire is acceptable. But, as always, you'll have more fun if you dress for the occasion. Vintage and/or holiday attire is fun and welcome. There are great photo ops in this beautiful historic building. I've posted some photos from the past events I've attended.

A word about the attendees: Most are in their fifties through seventies and many bring dance partners. But, if you love big band music, this is an incredible experience even if you don't have a dance partner. And I've often seen singles in their twenties and thirties at these events. Don't be shy about asking an older or younger person to dance if you come alone. That's what everyone in the dance community does. Or, just come to listen to the fabulous music and support the American Legion. The only way I've found to describe this sound is to say it's like the richest chocolate cake. It's truly magical. The Cabaret room was remodeled years ago, at great expense, to create the perfect sound.

I will arrive early to get a table. But once the band starts look for me on the dance floor!
