What we’re about

Why is the State so rotten and is there anything we can do?

This is a book club/discussion group for anyone who is interested in reading "classic" or "contemporary" dissident/leftist/anarchist/socialist/communist texts/pamphlets. We are interested in reading contemporary authors like David Graeber, Mark Fisher, Slavoj Zizek, Bob Black, Noam Chomsky, and others; as well as classical texts and authors, such as Bakunin, Kropotkin, Goldman, Proudhon, and others, especially in the "anarchist"/"libertarian socialist" tradition.

We are convinced that the State, capitalism, and the wage system are disastrous to humanity and ought to be abolished. Please join us in discussing texts that address these themes.

The structure of the group and meeting schedule will depend on membership and interests. Obviously, in the spirit of anarchism, these decisions will be made by consensus. :)

(NOTE: I use the term "socialist" in its original, broad sense, which was sometimes used interchangeably with terms like "communist" or "anarchist." This group is not restricted to authors who self-identify as "socialist" or any particular variety of socialism, and certainly not tied to the doctrines of a specific political party. "Anti-capitalist" may be a more apt term, but "socialist" made for a catchier title.)
