What we’re about
We're a group of film enthusiasts interested in how labor, gender, caste, and class issues are portrayed in South Asia. We will watch films in multiple languages and from multiple communities and perspectives, to motivate and contextualize solidarities.

See all- Movie Screening: Pariyerum PerumalKCLS Redmond, Redmond , WA
Join us for the debut event of the Socially Conscious South Asian Film Club (SOCSA FC) on the Eastside! We will screen Pariyerum Perumal (in Tamil with English subtitles) at the Redmond Library. The screening will begin promptly at 5 pm, followed by a brief discussion - feel free to join when you are able! Get ready to be immersed in the powerful story of a young man's journey through social injustice and discrimination.
Plot Summary: An idealistic youth is optimistic about his future as he enters college, but a tragic chain of events, and his friendship with a girl from a different station, will wake him up to the harsher realities of caste-stratified life in India.
Note: ignore the attendee limit on Meetup! Please register your attendance on Eventbrite so we can set up the room accordingly. And please take public transit (2 line or 542/545/930 buses) if possible to reach the venue as parking may be limited.
- Field Trip: Tasveer Film Festival 2025 (Friday)Columbia City, Seattle, WA

Choose your own adventure based on your interests/availability, and stay for lunch/dinner if you can! The complete TFF 2025 schedule is available here.
Our pared-down TFF schedule centers around the Tasveer Film Center in Columbia City. It is a short walk from the Columbia City 1 Line station, and close to the 7/9/50/106 bus stops. We will meet at the front of the building before we head out for each activity.

Note 2: SOCSA FC and the event organizers are not affiliated with either Tasveer or the Tasveer Film Festival. This event is simply an opportunity to gather and celebrate the work of South Asian filmmakers!
