What is the relationship between free speech and hate speech?
Details
Since we are born both social and talking creatures, the dynamics of talking with one another are crucial for a healthy society. Engaging the ‘other’ requires much of us. From the words themselves, to intention, intonation, perception, interpretation, reaction, response, etc. - these many features are part of verbally engaging others. What kind of speech contributes to a pluralistic and democratic society? Can honesty and compassion co-exist? What roles do disagreement and persuasion play in discourse? Do we sacrifice principle for coexistence? What might be some guidelines to disagreeing well?
Join us for a facilitated conversation about speech this upcoming Tuesday evening at the lovely Third Space Smithfield.
NOTE: we ask for a €3 donation to cover costs on the night via Coin or Revolut. THANK YOU.
