What is a good education and what are its purposes?
Details
For the next 2 Socrates Café sessions (8.Sep. & 13.Oct.) we are going to explore the matter of education. The Latin term, educare, unfolds the concept of nourishing, rearing, or moulding and training a child or mind. This first session (8.Sep) will explore the nature of a good education and its purpose(s). The second (13.Oct.) will unpack the relationship between knowledge, intelligence, and wisdom.
In this upcoming Socrates Cafes, we are going to drill down into what is a good education and what are its purposes. Is a good education strictly an intellectual matter? What might be the relationship between a good education and ethics? Is it formal or informal? What are the functions of authority and submission in being educated? What is the role of literacy in our education? Who gets to shape what a good education is: parents, friends, the state, ancient texts, technocrats, etc.? Feel free to join us for a facilitated conversation about education. Newcomers are welcome.
NOTE: we ask for a donation of 3 Euro on the night by coin or Revolut. THANK YOU.
