What Good is Socrates Café?

Socrates Café Dun Laoghaire is in its tenth year! So it's reasonable to ask why do we do this? Each person's answer might be good, bad or indifferent, but be assured those who organise Socrates Café have some specific aims in mind (these will not be revealed here, not now). Are we about something larger than ourselves, something more significant than a once-per-month get together? Are we learning or practicing anything that might be useful in other areas of life?
