I. M.📖Book club📔 "Life as No One Knows It" By Sara Imari Walker

Details
What is Life? What makes anything alive? How come life cannot be reduced to its parts? How can physical particles arranged under certain chemical structures give rise to something being alive? Given all the possible arrangements molecules can have, why do certain objects exist in the universe and others do not, including life itself?
Theoretical physicist Sara Walker argues that to understand the origin of life we need to challenge our preconceptions and reformulate our definitions while reframing the bigger questions about life existence. Walker introduces and carefully explains Assembly Theory as a way to understand evolution, creating an interface between physics and biology. According to her, a new proposal to identify and classify life is perhaps what is missing, one that does not include biological life on earth exclusively, but also one that potentially helps us expand our boundaries to any instance of life in the universe.
❇️Join us for an active exchange of ideas about the book. Remember, this is not a debate, we are here to listen and be listen, not to convince anyone of anything. We gather to speak our thoughts after reading the book and enjoy the company of others while being mindful and respectful. You do not need to understand the full content of the book to join, we are all here to learn and have fun while doing it.❇️
ー➡️To cover the cost of the venue we will ask for 150 (a hundred and fifty) yen to join ⬅️ー
NOTE: Small increase in the fee is due to the reduced number of rooms availability, hopefully not permanent.
For January we will discuss: "Life as No One Knows It: The Physics of Life's Emergence" by Sara Imari Walker.
------Details of the event-----
- 3:15 PM
The venue opens. Please come directly to the Kashiwagi Chiiki Centre. (柏木地域センター) in the Conference Room 2(会議室2), First Floor (1階).
