Looking to hit the ESC button? 🙃

We noticed at the last main meetup that people’s reading tastes have been leaning towards escapist-type reads as a way to manage the chaotic, stressful state of the world right now.

This next “mini” meetup will be centered around just that—escaping into books for comfort, entertainment, and sanity. 🌴

This meetup will be limited to 12 attendees to facilitate a group discussion. Please RSVP only if you can definitely attend and if something changes, please adjust your RSVP so that people on the waitlist can have the opportunity to join. 📚

THE FORMAT:
Unlike the casual, pop-in nature of our main meetups, this one will have a bit more structure. Please plan to arrive on time. We will take the first 20 minutes to get settled in - socialize, order food/drinks, etc.

We will begin the roundtable promptly at 6:20pm. During the roundtable, each person will have a chance to share their favorite escape book (can be a recent love or a forever favorite), what genres (in general) they like to escape into (it’s different for everyone and that’s why it’s interesting to hear yours!), and any other related recommendations. 📖

WHAT TO BRING:

  1. SHOW & TELL: Bring the book (print or e-book) you will “pitch” to the group as a great book to escape into. When it’s your turn at the roundtable, you’ll describe the premise of the book (no spoilers) and share why you find it so fun/comforting to escape into. 🧩

  2. OPTIONAL BOOK EXCHANGE: Bring one print book—WRAPPED—to participate in the book exchange. It can be new or used (and it doesn’t have to be the same as the book you present). Everyone participating will contribute one book and take one book with them when they leave. Have some fun, if you like, in wrapping it in the “escapist” theme and include a note on top to hint at what kind of book it is. For example, “If you dream of a tropical island escape!” or “If you wish you could hop into a portal to another world!” (If you don’t wish to participate in this component, you do not have to bring a book, and thus will not take a book.)🎁📕

Please reach out to your hosts - Chrissann & Brooke - with any questions!
