## Women in AI: From Prototype to Patient Impact
Building Responsible AI at the Intersection of Hardware, Computer Vision & Healthcare
Join PyLadies and South Florida Data Geeks for a special Women in AI event exploring what happens when artificial intelligence moves beyond the screen and begins interacting with the physical world.
This event brings together AI, Python, computer vision, data engineering, machine learning, and embedded systems through a practical MedTech project designed and presented by Arewa Ojelade.

From Prototype to Patient Impact
Presented by Arewa Ojelade, AI-Robotics Engineer
The centerpiece of the evening will be a live demonstration of an Automated Pill Dispensing & Visual Medication Compliance Monitor, a low-cost MedTech prototype that explores how physical AI can support medication adherence monitoring.
Follow the project from a 3D-printed prototype to an end-to-end AI and data system incorporating:
- Embedded Systems: Arduino Nano 33 BLE, servo-controlled dispensing, and 3D-printed components
- Computer Vision: MediaPipe and OpenCV for visual detection and pill verification
- Python + Edge Engineering: Real-time communication between hardware, camera, and the edge application
- Data Engineering: JSON event telemetry and Databricks Bronze → Silver → Gold architecture
- Machine Learning: MLflow experimentation and adherence-risk scoring
Rather than presenting a finished commercial product, the session will take attendees inside the engineering process, including prototyping, experimentation, integration challenges, design decisions, and lessons learned while connecting hardware, vision, data, and AI.
### More Than a Technical Demo
As part of the broader Women in AI community, the evening is also about creating space for women to learn, connect, build, and lead in emerging technology.
We will explore important questions surrounding responsible AI, including privacy, reliability, human oversight, accessibility, and what it takes to move an AI concept toward a trustworthy real-world system.
