We are room 414 "Codurance offices" in Bonded Warehouse. Please call me if you are struggling to get access (mobile number at the bottom)
For our January Software Crafters Manchester meetup, Codurance will be hosting an "unconference" style event focused on the topic of "The Future of the Software Engineer Role in an AI-Driven World".
This event promises an evening of engaging discussions, knowledge sharing, and networking opportunities focused on the critical theme of the evolving nature of the role of software engineers in the age of AI.
Format
Rather than formal presentations, we are giving everyone attending an opportunity to shape the agenda to focus on your preferences. Our event will therefore be run “unconference” style where you’ll be given the chance to co-create the topics to be discussed. Some ideas to get you started include:
- What impact will AI have on the Junior Developer role?
- How can we future-proof our careers as software engineers in an AI-driven world?
- What new skills will software engineers need to thrive alongside AI technologies?
Agenda
6:00-6:15pm Arrival and drinks/food
6:15-6:30pm Welcomes and intro by Codurance
6:30-8:00pm - Unconference
Audience
This meetup is for anyone from both the private and public sector that is interested in the future of software engineering. It is ideal for anyone keen to explore how AI is shaping the tech industry and the skills needed to succeed in this evolving landscape. This is very much a collaborative event so please bring your ideas for discussion topics along with any questions and your experience of the industry (or attempting to break into the industry).
About this Group
Software engineering is a journey of continuous refinement. While "knowing" the theory is a start, the true mark of a professional is the ability to apply those principles effectively in real-world scenarios.
Software Crafters Manchester is a community dedicated to the Software Craftsmanship movement. We bridge the gap between academic concepts and professional excellence through active, hands-on engagement. Our goal is to support your professional progression by providing a space where you can practice the "how" of engineering alongside a supportive network of peers.
Why Join Us?
We believe that the best way to learn is by doing—and the best way to grow is together. We maintain a high standard of professional practice while fostering an environment that is inclusive, ego-free, and welcoming to all.
- Active Engagement: Move beyond passive listening. Our sessions are built around coding katas, mob programming, and collaborative architecture drills.
- Professional Principles: We dive deep into the application of TDD (Test-Driven Development), SOLID principles, Clean Code, and Design Patterns.
- Inclusive Mentorship: Whether you're a junior developer establishing your foundation or a seasoned lead looking to sharpen your tools, your perspective is valued here.
- A "Safe to Fail" Environment: Practice difficult techniques here so you can implement them with confidence at your job.
What to Expect
Our meetups are workshops, not lectures. When you attend, expect to:
- Collaborate: Work in pairs or small groups to solve engineering challenges.
- Discuss: Share insights on maintainability, scalability, and code quality.
- Grow: Walk away with practical skills you can apply to your codebase the very next morning.
