What we’re about
We are a meeting place for everyone who deeply cares about software development.
We are a group of professionals who want to share their knowledge and learn from each other. We care about the software we create, and we practice our craft.
Our movement, as Craftspeople, is inspired by the “Manifesto for Software Craftsmanship” that focuses on software development as artisanship:
“As aspiring Software Crafters we are raising the bar of professional software development by practicing it and helping others learn the craft. Through this work we have come to value:
- Not only working software, but also well-crafted software
- Not only responding to change, but also steadily adding value
- Not only individuals and interactions, but also a community of professionals
- Not only customer collaboration, but also productive partnerships
That is, in pursuit of the items on the left we have found the items on the right to be indispensable”
Our principles as Craftspeople are:
- Sharing
- Caring
- Learning
- Practicing
We highly value the diversity of our community and want to ensure that people feel included, whether they identify with the term “craftsmanship” or not.

Global Day Of Coderetreat 2025 - Wroclaw, Poland
L’Uni Grodzka 9, 50-120 Wrocław, Grodzka 9, 50-120 Wrocław, Wroclaw, PLPLEASE fill this form out in order to be able to enter the building on Saturday: https://tinyurl.com/3venmz8x
What?
This is a 1-day event being held all around the world (* different weekend in PL).
A Coderetreat is a full-day hands-on coding workshop focused on the fundamentals of software development, design, and communication. During the day, you get multiple chances to try something completely different. You have the opportunity to learn new ways of testing, paradigms, architecture styles, libraries, approaches, languages, or IDEs.
Who?
We welcome contributors from all walks of life. We believe that more perspectives lead to more insights and helps us to discover different approaches.
This event will be held in an inclusive and safe environment.
We welcome people of all experience levels, from all the disciplines related to software development, e.g. Developers, Testers, Scrum Masters, and Product Owners. Even if you don’t code daily, our experience is that you usually learn a lot!
We will be running the event in English.
How?
The unique Coderetreat format eliminates the pressure of 'getting things done' and focuses on practicing fundamental principles of good design. The workshop is split into 45 min. sessions. TDD, pair programming, and clean code will be practiced throughout the day. Most sessions will have additional constraints to present new challenges and encourage you to leave your comfort zone.
How Much?
The Coderetreat is free!
Our sponsor, Przedsiębiorczy Wrocław 2030, will provide breakfast, lunch, snacks, and beverages.
What Else?
It’s best to bring your laptop. Don’t worry if you can’t: two people will be sharing a machine anyway. It should be ready for development, with everything you need installed i.e. IDE and unit testing framework. Make sure it is set up properly by having a new project with an empty class and a failing test. You can use one of our example projects.
Facilitators
Martin Klose from klose brothers will facilitate the Coderetreat at L’Uni. Martin has run countless Coderetreats at public events, at conferences, or for clients like BMW, Telekom, Nokia - to name a few. For many years, he was part of the global organization team for GDCR.
Martin is a regular speaker at agile conferences like ALE (Agile Lean Europe), Agile Testing Days, Berlin Expert Days, GOTO, (W)JAX, and XP Days. He also has a leading role in the Software Craftsmanship movement, for instance as a founding member of SoCraTes and swkBerlin.
Agenda
We will open our doors at 8:30. We'll kick off with some introductions and offer a little breakfast until we start the program at 9:15. There will be three sessions in the morning and two sessions after lunch. The official program will end around 16:30. Lunch, coffee, and beverages will be provided.
