What weโre about
What We're About
At the Software Engineering Management & Leadership Meetup, every Engineering Manager* can meet peers to practice various live case scenarios in small groups and a safe environment.
* Engineering Manager refers to those line managers who directly manage software engineers, QAs, etc., as well as those aspiring to grow into the EM position.
* We are also open to Senior Leaders willing to support others' professional growth.
- Have you ever felt at work that you could have handled a situation more effectively if you had greater knowledge or experience?
- Do you have challenging situations where coaching or outside advice could help?
- Is your learning process structured so you learn from others' mistakes and experiences instead of just your own?
- Do you have a supportive group of fellow EMs to lean on in challenging times?
This group aims to help with the scenarios above.
Our approach
Our approach involves working in small groups using the EM Kata approach. We value active participation from everyone as the key to rapid learning and professional growth.
During the first few meetups, we'll refine the most effective format for small group work. We're seeking like-minded individuals ready to grow with us. Later, our group will open to more diverse participants.
What is an EM Kata?
Our vision of an EM Kata is to give Engineering Managers a chance to practice skills and grow knowledge using real-world cases. It's like Code, TDD or Architectural Kata, but for EMs. It's also similar to approaches with cases used in CTO/CIO educational programs.
Join our community that learns and grows together.

See all- EM Kata Meets Architectural Kata: Building Systems TogetherThoughtworks Event Space, Berlin
In early 2024, I was inspired by the meetups organised by Robin and decided to volunteer with the organisation. That experience later influenced my choice to start the EM Kata meetups and the SEML Community.
Iโm really excited that Robin has continued the Architectural Kata series โ and even happier that we can now host a joint event together! Weโll tackle real design challenges together. Weโll dive straight into collaborative problem-solving, working through complex scenarios and discovering elegant patterns as a group. All as you love!
