(25th June) OpenSource software and Sanctions.

MOTIVATION
While MIT, ASL, BSD license may seem like unilateral declaration of love for freedom and free labour, Sanctions, Embargo, Foreign Direct Product rule (FDPR), export controls is the real raw rough deal.

This is even more problematic since we are having a 'single currency', 'country-of-origin' lockin in technology.

In simple words, if you are located in a sanctioned region or country, you can't use OpenSSL, Apache Webserver, Docker and such.

Or one fine day, the Burger Bumpkin decides that he doesn't like you anymore, you are sanctioned. Forewarned is forearmed !

Technology stacks are unlike geographical resources (water, air, land) which can't be blocked but are ubiquitous nevertheless and effect our economic dynamics in myriad unsuspecting ways.

Oh by the way, when Linux Foundation, Apache Software foundation was asked these very questions, they wouldn't utter a word !

OBJECTIVE

We seek to 'frame' the sanction/embargo/export controls/FDPR as a opportunity to create an ALTernative.

We deliberate

- You cannot learn core technology by just using the API.
- You won't understand stuff that which you did not create.
- Going legacy-free as an opportunity to define a new interface and to create new solution.
- Eliminating the 'country-of-origin' lockin by tactical feature prioritization.
- Know where to attack 'OTB' (Own the Backend) while using the useless UI and CLI.
- Code coverage analysis of existing code base to understand the dependency graph
- Creating parallel technology stacks (esp protocol components eg. gRPC, protobuf)
- An ALTernative software supply chain without a particular 'country-of-origin' lockin
- Releasing new software artifacts under a license that blocks usage under 'coercive' condtions.
- Realize skilled talent is developed by solving core problems (eg. Graph based solution) and not be writing YAML/TF files.
- We will never know unless we try

We live in a fast transforming world and software stack and skills are an important part of our nations development.
