Tentative: Annie Creek & Garfield Peak!

Details
This event is tentative until it's announced by email. If you are interested though, please RSVP.
Crater Lake is Oregon's National Park. Tourists visit from across the globe. Crater Lake is the bluest lake in the world, and the deepest lake in the United States. Living close by, it's important to visit the jewel of Southern Oregon. I hope you can make it!
Annie Creek Canyon and Garfield Peak are 2 hikes at Crater Lake National Park. The total walking distance for Annie Creek is 2.6 miles, with 250 feet of elevation gain. For Garfield Peak it's 3.4 miles with 1,010 feet of elevation gain.
Walking poles are recommended.
Bring food and water for the day.
Dogs generally are not allowed on the trails within Crater Lake National Park.
At 8:30am, we'll meet at the Dollar Tree in White City. From there, we'll carpool to Crater Lake National Park. At Milepost 29, on Highway 62, we'll make a restroom stop at Casey County Park.
Our first hike, Annie Creek Canyon, is adjacent to the South Entrance of Crater Lake National Park.
First, we will walk to the spring where Annie Creek comes out of Mt. Mazama. From there we'll walk along the Annie Creek Canyon Rim past the Mazama Village campground. Then we'll make the descent to the bottom of Annie Creek Canyon.
Walking along Annie Creek is surprising and unexpected. There are 4 well constructed pedestrian bridge crossings over Annie Creek. No rock hopping is necessary. Along Annie Creek it's green and lush in contrast to the gray ash walls of Annie Creek Canyon.
Walking upstream, we'll eventually climb out of Annie Creek Canyon back to our starting point.
Our second hike is Garfield Peak. The top of Garfield Peak is about 2,000 feet above Crater Lake. The Garfield Peak trail begins at Crater Lake Lodge. After a brief descent along the rim of Crater Lake, the Garfield Peak trail climbs close to the Crater Lake Rim 1,010 feet in 1.5 miles to the top of Garfield Peak. The views of Crater Lake are dramatic and unforgettable.
To appreciate the Garfield Peak trail it's not necessary to make it to the top. For those opting to go part way, turning around at any point is an option because we are returning the way we came back to Crater Lake Lodge.
If there is anything thing you want to discuss, feel free to contact Chris by Meetup message or text (541) 261-8167. I hope to see you!
