Meet at the Glenview (Drive) Trailhead Parking area <42.18208 -122.71686>. I will be the tall guy holding an umbrella.
This will be the first hike in a series intended to build endurance, or offer a duration/difficulty variety of hikes. All hikes in this series will be in the Ashland Creek Basin (above/around Lithia Park).
This first one is a relatively short and easy hike that begins with a gentle yet steady climb through a lovely, peaceful hollow (Jemmison Gulch) where for much of the hike beginning you can hear Ashland Creek. (Near the trailhead, there are some fun sculptures to observe.) There is a brief overlap on top with Bandersnatch/Red Queen, with some views of the valley. It ends with a relatively rapid descent back to the trailhead on: Lower Red Queen, Ashland Loop Road, Witzend.
It is important to know the route and/or pay attention to trail signs. Some of the trails in this area are mountain-bike only, and they will cross our path at least three times. Note: Much of the Snark Trail is also designated for bikes, but it is very rare to encounter them there, with the very beginning being pedestrian only.
