Hike to Island Lake & Red Lake

Island Lake of the Sky Lakes Wilderness can be accessed from a trail off of forest road 3659, a trailhead known as “the short-cut to Island Lake.” Red Lake is further down the trail, and round-trip distance would be 6.8 miles over moderate elevation gain and loss.

Bring water, lunch, and snacks. Pack a jacket. By this time in August the mosquitos in the Sky Lakes Wilderness are minimal. Some still may be present, so bringing along insect repellent is recommended. Dogs are welcome.
