Hike through autumn splendor along the Upper Rogue River
Details
BRING: lunch, snacks, and water. The morning temperature could be chilly. I recommend packing a jacket. Dogs are welcome, but be prepared to have your canine friend on leash.
The Upper Rogue River in the Union Creek area is one of my favorite hikes to enjoy the autumn season colors. Starting at the Rogue River Gorge, and after taking in the sight there, we will precede downriver, cross a footbridge at the confluence of Union Creek, eventually making a loop past where the river inundates a lava tube at Natural Bridge. At the parking area the trail turns upriver for the return hike. When we again reach the Union Creek footbridge, for more autumn color, bypass the bridge and keep straight on a trail along the creek. This route leads past Becky’s Café and a short road walk back to the Rogue River Gorge. The total is 8-miles on a gradual trail except for about 300 feet of gain up a hillside before reaching Natural Bridge.
