Isle Royale Backpacking Trip July 18-24, 2026

This Isle Royale backpacking trip is for experienced backpackers who are prepared to go to a remote island for a wonderful week of backpacking. This trip is for backpackers who have backpacking experience and need to be screened by Laura Miller to participate in the trip.

Dates: July 19 -24, 2026 of backpacking trip, you are responsible to get to the ferry in Copper Harbor that morning. It is recommended that you arrive the day before to make sure you are on time for the ferry.

***Additional costs for each person is to drive to Copper Harbor, any hotel before trip and ferry ticket to Isle Royale from Copper Harbor and National Park Pass. Parking fee while on Isle Royale.

***You will need to drive yourself to Copper Harbor, Michigan and book a round trip ferry ticket for the 8 am ferry on Sunday, July 19, 2026. Arrive by 7:15 am. The ferry cost is $175 for round trip tickets (the price may change in the summer.) Return ferry ticket for Friday, July 24, 2026 for the 2:45 pm ferry. Trip Details:
You need to get your own hotel or campsite for Saturday, July 18 to make the 8 am ferry. Arrive on Sunday, July 19 at 7:15 am for the 8 am ferry.

July 19, Sunday: Leave Copper Harbor on the Royal Queen 2 at 8 am to Rock Harbor. Arrive about noon and go through the orientation with Park Rangers. Backpack to Daisy Farm Group Campsite. Mileage approx. 7.1 miles.

July 20, Monday: Backpack from Daily Farm to McCargoe Cove. Mileage approx. 8.2 miles

July 21, Tuesday: Backpack from McCargo Cove to Chippewa Harbor. Mileage approx. 10.6 miles

July 22, Wednesday: Backpack from Chippewa Harbor to Moskey Basin. Mileage approx. 5.3 miles

July 23, Thursday: Backpack from Moskey Basin to Three Mile. Mileage approx. 8.3 miles.

Backpack from Three Mile to Rock Harbor and leave on the 2:45 pm ferry to Copper Harbor, then drive home on your own.
