Advancement in a future data model for the Internet that decentralizes authority and redistributes it to people by giving them increased control over who with and how their personal data is shared; provides a range of new commercial opportunities, where currently viable business models are being tested. The Solid Project is the driver for this advancement of web standards.
What's it like to develop with Solid and where do you start?
We hear from three Inrupt Hackathon submissions about their experiences of developing with Solid and what they produced to either help solve an identified problem or create totally new experiences for data sharing. We also warmly welcome Jesse Wright who will prompt the discussion of the future of the Solid specification and how it might progress from its current state today to pull together the technical narrative of this month's event.

The way enterprises handle consumer data is broken. Consumers have little to no choice and information about what happens to their data. Papayaverse is a project to solve this problem with the creation of a data bank. Solid Pods store consumer data on the user end, allowing central consent & preference management for multiple sites, & monetize their data via an NFT third-party data-sharing platform, allowing users to share their data with companies & be compensated. Using blockchain results in additional benefit of transparency & accountability in data transactions. I will talk about technical details of the Papayaverse project & my experience of working with Inrupt's client libraries to implement key functionalities.
Maxime Lecoq-Gaillard (Inria, Université Côte d'Azur / Inrupt Hackathon Submission)

Wimmics - Startin'blox Collaboration. Solid Indexer, lessons learned from the proof of concept of an indexing SOLID agent.
Jose & Tanmay (BuyWatch / Inrupt Hackathon Submission)

BuyWatch is a platform based on SOLID protocol allowing micropayments via web monetization API for media content distribution. Users pay for specific file access. The goal is to change the way people consume digital media content based on the way they pay for it & how it is stored. One of the core concepts of SOLID we are interested in is interoperability
& integration with other SOLID Apps. It could have the capability and scalability to import Linked Data or catalogues to extend the DB with well-known sources e.g. MusicBrainz & allow apps to link to content.
Jesse Wright (Inrupt)

The Solid vision is to make data independent of applications. How do we achieve this vision in applications today & what can we expect in the future?
