yamnuska ridge trail
Details
Mount Yamnuska Ridge Trail is an Alberta classic. AllTrails says so, and I agree.
We'll meet at 9:00 AM at the Tim Hortons at Highway 1 and Home Road NW. The weather forecast could not be better.
I can drive, but depending on numbers we may need a second vehicle.
The hike is rated "strenuous" on AllTrails, so please look up the route beforehand and make sure you're comfortable with the distance, elevation gain, terrain, and exposure. While I personally find Yamnuska to be a lot of fun, it's definitely not an easy hike. There are steep sections, some easy scrambling, significant exposure in places, and terrain where a mistake could have serious consequences!!
We'll move at the pace of the slowest hiker, but participants should be comfortable hiking in the mountains and capable of completing a strenuous day hike.
A few notes:
- This is not a guided hike.
- Everyone is responsible for their own planning, safety, equipment, and decisions.
- Nobody gets left behind.
- The scree run on the descent is my favourite part of the entire hike.
If you've ever thought, "I'd like to hike alone, but with other people," then this may be the perfect first event. |
Who knows, if this goes well, it may be the first of many occasions for us to be solo together...
