Changing your posture, learning new ways to move, thinking about yourself differently – these all affect how you feel in your body. And you want to feel good in your body. So what affects your posture, your movement, and your thoughts?
In this Somatic Movement for Beginners class you will explore what happens when you bring focused, curious attention to the internal sensations of your body along with mindful movement. You will first-hand experience a somatic method that supports listening to the sensory receptors inside of your body and then enables you to use that information as potent feedback to effortlessly learn new ways to hold posture, to move, and to conceptualize what you are.
The aim is that you feel good or even better and that you understand how you did it.
In addition to learning how to study yourself in the somatic way, that is first-person research of your own body by inward sensing, you will also see anatomical models of internal structures to support your own research. It is also common in these classes for us to include theoretical and embodied lessons in physiology, Buddhist psychology, and evolutionary biology: all as ways to support you having a more knowledgeable, open, and constructive view of yourself and others.

### This is For You If You..

  • Want to practice sensing yourself within mental qualities like trust, openness, compassion, and curiosity
  • … you want a way to measure the effects of doing this.
  • … and you want to begin to establish this as an automatic way of being for yourself.
  • Are curious to learn about your own anatomy, physiology, and evolutionary history in a way that is straightforward, scientific, and tangible.
  • Know there is an abundance of valuable information inside of your body and want support accessing it.
  • Want to learn how to use movement, touch, and perception to activate your natural state of self-learning, self-healing, and self-development.
  • And you want to do this in community :-)

No experience necessary. All bodies and minds willing to focus and support themselves and each other in sensing are welcome, including people with more limited mobility.
