Live Printmaking Demonstration with Art Hazelwood
Details
Join us for the art of PRINTMAKING! Experience a special behind-the-scenes look at the art of etching as artist Art Hazelwood returns to print at the Sonoma Community Center.
Art will live print the poster for the upcoming gallery exhibition – Etched in Sonoma: A Living Legacy.
Hazelwood is a nationally recognized artist and printmaker whose work often explores themes of social justice, labor, and community. A longtime advocate for the accessibility of printmaking, he was among the artists who printed at Sonoma print studio Eastside Editions, which was owned by Simon Blattner.
The exhibition Etched in Sonoma: A Living Legacy, curated by
Simon Blattner and Barbara Wells, celebrate the art of print, bringing together works from Blattner’s former Print Studio, Eastside Editions, and the Sonoma Community Center’s Print Studio today.
For this event, Hazelwood will print the official exhibition poster using the Griffin etching press, which was donated to SCC’s Print Studio by Eastside Editions when it closed. The upcoming exhibition will open to the public on Friday, May 1st.
This FREE, live public demonstration offers a rare opportunity to experience the printmaking process up close—from inking the plate to pulling the final print. The artist invites the public to view Hazelwood’s creative process and engage with Simon Blattner and Barbara Wells, co-curators of the upcoming printmaking exhibition “Etched in Sonoma: A Living Legacy.”
