Pool Ridge trail to the top of Armstrong

Pool Ridge trail is finally open. This is an exceptional out and back hike and is one half of a future loop hike. Coast redwoods are classified as temperate rainforests and they need wet and mild climates to survive. The rainfall in Armstrong Redwoods averages 55 inches per year and the trees are often shrouded in a mystical fog that helps to maintain the moist conditions needed for the redwoods to survive.
You Must Be Fit, Confident And Have Hiked With Me In The Past Six Months.
You Must Have Zero No Shows.

Where We Meet/Important Direction
Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve
Just before the park entrance kiosk look for a parking lot to your right.
17000 Armstrong Woods Rd, Guerneville
Give yourself enough time to arrive, use the restroom & pay park fee. It often takes longer than you think.
The Hike
Discovery and Pool Ridge trails - Out and Back
Length - +/-6.6 miles/10.6 kilometers
Elevation change - +/-1240 feet/378 meters
Difficulty - 8 out of 10 - Some steep sections and exposures.
Exposures - 15 % sun/85% shade - rocky, poison oak, ticks and insects.
Bring plenty of water. At least 68 oz./2 liters!
Dogs - Are not allowed.
Facilities at trail head - Water, picnic tables and restrooms.
Cost - $5 cash.
Parking - $10 per vehicle or State Park pass. The parking lot fills quickly. Carpool with someone and arrive early to find parking. Also, there's limited free parking along Armstrong Woods Road.
Remember to wear appropriate hiking shoes, bring plenty of water, a hat, snack & layered clothing.
Please Do Not Use Any scented products the day of a group hike!
Of course we will all look out for each other but ultimately, hikers are responsible for their own safety and well-being during hikes.
