What we’re about
Thanks for considering joining Sophisticated Eaters and Drinkers of Broward / PBC!
We're only "sophisticated" in that we recognize quality food and drink, which, by the way, need not empty our savings accounts!
We're a diverse group of mostly singles and mostly aged 55+, but everyone is welcome to join us at food and drink events across South Florida, from Fort Lauderdale to West Palm Beach.
We come together for the joy of eating, drinking, making new friends, and sharing our travel and dining experiences.
There is an emphasis on positivity and gratefulness rather than on complaining and criticizing.
We do not rotate the same tired restaurants week after week, with the same members showing up event after event.
There is never a group charge.
Our events fall into two categories: hosted restaurant events organized by me and others, and unhosted events that range from cooking classes to food festivals.
For the latter type, follow the link to purchase tickets for each event as soon as possible, as some of these events sell out quickly.
The group only lists these events, does not sponsor them, and depends on members to determine if each event is appropriate for them.
The only costs to you are associated with unhosted events that you choose to participate in, and of course, your food and drink at hosted events!
At hosted dinner events, we order entrees.
For breakfast and lunch events, we generally order what we wish, although ordering something significant, whether an omelet, salad, or a sandwich, will ensure that we’ll be welcomed back to the restaurant in the future.
Separate checks will always be issued wherever we eat.
We leave political and religious discussions to other meetup groups and our friends, neighbors, and family members outside the group.
We limit our phone use when we're together and focus on eating and socializing.
You're sure to fit right in if you value civility, humor, and good conversation.
Bring a good appetite and your gift for gab.
My best,
Steve
PS The group has a zero-tolerance for harassment of any kind as well as any childish misbehavior such as insulting, disrespecting, or berating waitstaff, event hosts, or fellow members.
Be sure to join my other Meetup group for festival listings, singles events, and much more!
Here's a chance to enjoy an authentic Georgian meal nestled inconspicuously in a shopping center next to an arcade.
There is no sign identifying itself above its window - only on the window itself.
Here is a video review of the restaurant.
Here is a second video review.
The restaurant appears to have no website and thus no menu is available.
Georgian food is a fusion of Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, & Asian cuisine featuring diverse flavors influenced by its Silk Road location, with signature dishes like Khachapuri (cheese-filled bread), Khinkali (spiced meat dumplings), and Pkhali (vegetable pastes with walnuts).
Common ingredients include nuts, herbs, and fresh vegetables, with significant regional variations and dishes like Mtsvadi (grilled meat skewers).
The cuisine also includes flavorful soups, stews, and a strong wine culture, with communal eating being a central tradition.
I look forward to having a full sign-up for this event and, more importantly, a full show-up.

- A Tasty Fish Dinner at Calypso in Pompano - RIDE AVAILABLE FROM DELRAYCalypso Restaurant and Raw Bar, Pompano, FL
Calypso Restaurant and Raw Bar claims to be the best fish restaurant in South Florida, and they might very well be right about that!
If you enjoy squid and you've never had Bahamian conch, I would strongly recommend it.
A ride is available.
Wearing seatbelts is mandatory.
Please get in touch with me privately if you would like to reserve a space.
Here is the menu.
Here are some reviews.
Please also answer the question I've posed so there are no misunderstandings once we arrive at the restaurant.
No reservations, but at 5:30 our wait, if any, will hopefully be very short.
See ya all there!!
