Uvas Canyon Park: Let's Go Chasing Waterfalls!
Details
** IMPORTANT! **
**PLEASE READ ALL INFORMATION SO THAT YOU ARE ADEQUATELY PREPARED AND COMFORTABLE WITH THE STATED LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY**
Uvas Canyon County Park is a lushly wooded park nestled in upper Uvas Canyon on the eastern side of the Santa Cruz Mountains west of Morgan Hill. It encompasses 1,147 acres of wonderful hiking trails and camping facilities. It's a magical place filled with stunning vistas, sparkling waterfalls, shaded canyons and an abundance of ladybugs, butterflies and wild flowers in season.
Cyclists are not allowed. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash.
This will be a long (but delightful!) hike and will commence with the CHALLENGING Nibbs Knob 4.4 mile out-and-back trail through mostly open air terrain and 1,922 ft elevation gain during the cooler morning hours. We will then reward ourselves with a refreshing sojourn along the 4+ mile shady forest Waterfall/Contour/Triple Falls Loop Trail.
***NIBBS KNOB IS A STRENUOUS HIKE. NOT FOR THE CASUAL HIKER***
We'll maintain a steady pace so as not to prolong overall hike time
Total length: 9+ miles Elevation gain: 2,700+ ft
Level of difficulty: Hard/Difficult (see Photo)
Route type: one out-and-back then finishing with a loop
Time: 5-6 hours
Our route: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/custom-routes/uvas-nibbs-knob-waterfall-loop-bf0313a
The entire park is beautifully maintained and includes sparkling clean bathrooms with flushing toilets and delightful picnic facilities at the entrance.
Please bring plenty of water and snacks, supportive hiking boots with good tread, sun protection for the Nibbs Knob Trail, any anticipated first aid needs and your joyful, nature-loving spirit!
Parking reservations must be made prior to entering the park. For that reason as well as the distance to get there I recommend carpooling. There is, however, a large parking lot. Each car reservation costs $6 and must be obtained online. We'll be "Entry Group 2" for reservations.
The Parking Reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance before entering Uvas Canyon. Reservations for parking can be made by visiting the Uvas Canyon County Park website or click on this link: gooutsideandplay.org and selecting "Day Passes". Again, we will be Entry Group 2.
Safety: Please keep in mind that you attend these events at your own risk and you are ultimately responsible for your own safety.
