Hiking at the Bonny Doon Ecological Reserve offers a peaceful, uncrowded experience through a striking sandhill landscape. The Bonny Doon Ecological Reserve is a 552-acre nature preserve located in the Santa Cruz Mountains. It protects a rare and distinct ecosystem known as the Santa Cruz Sandhills, which is an ancient seabed formed from 15-million-year-old Miocene marine sediment.
It features redwood canyons, sandstone outcroppings and unique
sandhills habitat, The trails are heavily sandy, resembling a walk on the beach in many sections, which can provide a surprisingly strenuous workout for our legs.
