Lecture description:
In this final Maps of Meaning lecture, Jordan Peterson uses Disney’s Pinocchio as a powerful mythological lens to explore how ancient stories encode deep psychological truths about human development. He examines the journey from puppet-like immaturity to genuine personhood, diving into themes of conscience (Jiminy Cricket), temptation and moral decay (Pleasure Island), confronting chaos and the unknown (the whale), and the critical role of voluntary responsibility, truth-telling, and error correction in becoming fully human. Blending Jungian archetypes, evolutionary psychology, and biblical parallels, Peterson reveals why such timeless tales serve as essential guides for personal growth and cultural survival.Format:
