Welcome to our new group! For our very first get-together, let’s go take a saunter (stroll) at Bayard Cutting Arboretum reachable on Long Island Railroad to Great River Station.

NOTEWORTHY: As you stroll the grounds you will encounter SCARECROWS. This is a seasonal exhibit. So let's go take some scarecrow selfies.

The Bayard Cutting Arboretum is a New York State park that was donated to the Long Island State Park Region by [Bayard Family] “to provide an oasis of beauty and quiet for the pleasure, rest and refreshment of those who delight in outdoor beauty; and to bring about a greater appreciation and understanding of the value and importance of informal planting.”

GETTING THERE: Long Island Railroad (LIRR) to Great River station, followed by 12-min walk to the Arboretum.

• From Penn Station the 8:42am train transfers at Jamaica at 9:11am and arrives at Great River station at 10:06am
• From Jamaica Station the 9:11am train will get you to Great River station by 10:06am

AGENDA:

• Once we all arrive at Great River station at 10:06AM, it's a 12-min walk from train station to the Bayard Arboretum Visitor's Center.
• We'll explore the arboretum at LEISURELY pace and NO ONE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND. PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP if you feel the need to channel your inner Speed Demon!

Fall Foliage Hike: Rosendale to New Paltz

Come join us as we head north to Rosendale, NY for a fall foliage walk over the Rosendale Trestle and connecting to the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail that will take us to New Paltz for a total of about 15 MILES mostly FLAT hike 😊

GETTING THERE: Trailways bus out of NY's Port Authority Bus Terminal that goes to Rosendale.

• The 7AM NYC bus arrives in Rosendale at 8:50AM. One-way bus ticket is $32.00 (depends on how early you buy the ticket). Ticket can be purchased in advance at this link: https://trailways.com/ BE SURE TO BUY ONE WAY TICKET AS WE'RE NOT COMING BACK TO THE SAME BUS STATION AT THE END OF THE DAY
• For return bus, buy the ONE-WAY 6pm bus from NEW PALTZ back to New York's Port Authority by 7:40PM (depends on traffic)

AGENDA:
in the morning, from the Rosendale bus station we'll make our way to the Rosendale Trestle on foot. Then pick up the connecting Walkill Rail Trail and make our way to NEW PALTZ.

HIKE INTENSITY: The entire day is EASY BREEZY.

PACE: Hiking pace will be LEISURELY AND NO ONE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND.

THE IMPORTANT STUFF:

• Dress in non-cotton layers.
• Wear appropriate shoes suitable for hiking.
• Bring at least 3 liters of liquid to stay hydrated.
• Bring lunch and snacks for yourself.

DURATION: This is an all-day hike.

Fall Foliage Hike at Mohonk Preserve

It's the most wonderful time of the year - FALL FOLIAGE! Come join us as we take a hike at Mohonk Preserve reachable on Trailways bus out of the Port Authority Bus Terminal going to New Paltz.

AGENDA: We will hike the East Trapps Connector Trail at Mohonk Preserve which is a strenuous 0.25-mile singletrack path made of stone steps that climbs uphill from the Visitor Center to the carriage road network. This is a scenic hike under dramatic cliffs and seeing rock climbers work the rock face while you keep both your feet on the trail :)
Trail will loop back to the West Trapps Connector Trail taking you back to the Visitor Center.

GETTING THERE: We're taking the Trailway bus from Port Authority Bus Terminal. The 8:30am bus arrives in New Paltz by 10:05am. One-way ticket is $25.00 (depends on how early you buy the ticket). Ticket can be purchased in advance at this link: https://trailways.com/

From the Trailways bus station in New Paltz, we'll then pick up local taxi or Uber that will drop us off at the Mohonk Visitor Center. PLEASE NOTE THERE IS A $20.00 HIKER FEE COLLECTED AT THE VISITORS CENTER. Fee is waived if you’re a member of Mohonk Preserve.

PACE: Hiking pace will be LEISURELY AND NO ONE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND. During hike we'll have lunch, water and snack breaks as needed; as well as taking time to savor the sights and sounds of nature, take photos, hug some trees, and most importantly, socialize with your fellow hikers. NO FAST HIKERS!

TOTAL MILEAGE: up to about 7 to 8 MILES, maybe more, maybe less, who the heck can tell for sure?

DURATION: We will be out for the entire day. But you can leave on your own at any time. We won't judge. Much.

AFTER HIKE, we'll allot some time to explore New Paltz and grab some local bites and drinks before heading home.

RETURN BUS: 6PM bus back to NYC by 7:40 (depends on traffic)

Leaf-Peeping Day Trip to Hudson

Let's take a fall foliage day trip heading north to upstate to visit the pretty village of HUDSON, NY reachable on AMTRAK out of Moynihan Train Hall at Penn Station.

AGENDA FOR TODAY: Once we get there we'll take a hike on the grounds of OLANA State Historic Park as well as a walk over the Rip Van Winkle Bridge and the Hudson River Skywalk. We'll also allot time to explore the town of Hudson. Bring an appetite! There are also many fine restaurants in town!

ABOUT HUDSON, NY: Bursting with restaurants and boutique hotels, Hudson is the ultimate car-free destination for the New Yorker who wants to dine like royalty without the hassle of the city. GETTING THERE: Amtrak out of Moynihan Train Hall at Penn Station.

• The 7:15AM train out of Penn and arriving in HUDSON by 9:23AM. The train will drop us off right in the center of Hudson, NY.
• Return trains: book any return train of your choice. I'm taking the 6:57PM train from Hudson back to Penn.

AGENDA: Once we arrive in Hudson, the train will drop us off right in the center of town. We'll share a 10-min Uber ride to Olana.

• OLANA's landscape is free and open to all, every day of the year from 8:00AM to sunset! We'll explore the grounds of Olana. Then we'll pick up the Hudson River Skywalk and the Rip Van Winkle Bridge.
