Sound Affects is a night of talks about music and subcultures, how sound affects us and how music changes the world. Hearing from writers, musicians, artists, superfans, photographers, filmmakers and everyday music lovers, we dive into personal stories, esoteric bands, fan communities, punk, pop, social change and much more. It's organised and hosted by journalist and documentary filmmaker Jak Hutchcraft.

Guest speakers:
Jane Mingay - Director of Pauline Black: A 2-Tone Story, the feature documentary about the legendary singer of British ska band The Selecter. It explores her 40-year music career and her advocacy for racial equality. It premiered at London Film Festival and is now on Sky. Jane also made documentary, Paloma Faith: As I Am, about pop-stardom and parenthood.

Mark Jay - Filmmaker, writer and visual artist who has been causing cultural disruptions for almost half a century.Mark started SKuM ‘zine in 1976 aged 14 after bumping into members of the Sex Pistols crew in Rock On record shop in Camden. Issue #1 featured Sid Vicious’ first interview with his band The Flowers of Romance. Mark became an early face on the UK Punk scene - getting arrested on the Pistols’ Jubilee Boat Party, designing the cartoon poster for their Never Mind the Bollocks LP, and stowing away on the Clash’s Out of Control tour. In 1979 Mark co-produced the post-punk poetry ‘zine All the Poets, in London and San Francisco. His forthcoming novel / memoir of misbehaviour - The Nudniks of 1977 delves into his back catalogue of chaos and religious disobedience.
