AWARD CEREMONY
Join us in celebrating Marianne Thamm, one of our two Secularists of the Year. Marianne is an investigative journalist, the author of several books, and currently Associate Editor of the Daily Maverick. If you're lucky enough to catch one of her shows, she occasionally performs erudite and insightful stand-up comedy at the Baxter Theatre.
Marianne was born in England, where her German father—who had been a prisoner of war—met her mother, a Portuguese domestic worker. She describes herself as a “half-Portuguese, half-German, recovering Roman Catholic atheist lesbian immigrant”. Marianne lives in Cape Town with her partner and their two daughters.
The Secularist of the Year Award will be presented by SASS President, Rick Raubenheimer, at The Commons in Muizenberg. The Award Ceremony will include a public conversation between Rick and Marianne.

FOLLOWED BY LUNCH
After the ceremony, we will stroll along the beachfront to Hudsons, The Burger Joint, at 70 Beach Road, Muizenberg. They offer fun and fabulous light meals, with a focus on burgers. There are plenty of vegetarian options, including salads, pizzas, and delicious vegetarian burgers.
If you are a paid-up SASS member, SASS will subsidise your lunch bill by R100 per member. You are very welcome to bring along (and pay for) as many guests as you wish.
