Here is a chance to meet with the team behind Food Forward and learn how they rescue backyard fruit to feed those among us in need. Learn how you can get involved in the South Bay too. Feel free to sip a kumquat beer made with backyard fruit from across Los Angeles. Support a wonderful cause.

Smog City Joins 1% for the Planet

https://smogcitybeer.files.wordpress.com/2017/07/launch2.jpg?w=300&h=219 As a company, we believe that it is our resolute responsibility to make every effort to reduce our environmental impact and support our local community. Recycle, reclaim, reuse have always been an indelible part of Smog City and this partnership is the next step in our company’s evolution.

As of July 1st, 2017, Smog City has officially partnered with 1% for the Planet (http://www.onepercentfortheplanet.org/#) , a non-profit founded by Patagonia’s founder Yvon Chouinard, which partners businesses with non-profits that support and protect the planet.

“We defy conventional philanthropy by leveraging our member’s dollars through innovative programs focused on driving maximum environmental impact. Our individual and business members create a movement that inspires giving and sets new standards for how people take responsibility for our planet.” – 1% for the Planet

What does this partnership mean? It means that Smog City has committed 1% of our gross wholesale and Torrance taproom revenue to non-profits that protect the planet. Environmental impact is a real thing and we at Smog are committed to making this a better place for ourselves, our children and our children’s children.

On July 12th, we invite you to join us in celebrating this new partnership with proceeds from the event supporting our non-profit partner,

Food Forward (https://foodforward.org/). Founder, Rick Nahmias and some of his team will be there to jettison Smog City into the future, where responsibility and social commitment is the norm and your engagement as a consumer has a direct and lasting impact.

Our collaboration beer, Kumquat Saison (https://smogcitybeer.wordpress.com/?s=kumquat), (GABF 2015 Silver Award Winner) is brewed with kumquats harvested by Food Forward volunteers from backyards across L.A. and will be available on tap with bottles available to go! Kumquat Saison represents a 3 year long partnership with Food Forward, where waste, community activism and craft beer go hand in hand. This is a unique opportunity to meet the people behind the non-profit and sign up your citrus trees or even volunteer! The South Bay needs more Food Forward representation and I know you’ve all got citrus trees. Last year, Food Forward rescued over 15 million pounds of produce across L.A., produce that would have otherwise gone to landfills but now feeds a community in need.

Cheers,

Laurie and Jonathan Porter And The Smog City Team
