What weβre about
South Bay Coastal Environmental Intelligence Initiative (SB-CEII) is a community-led initiative focused on coastal cleanup, environmental data collection, and applied analytics to support environmental protection and coastal resilience in the South Bay and greater Los Angeles region.
Founded and led by a local environmental data practitioner, SB-CEII organizes recurring, structured beach cleanups that go beyond litter removal by incorporating systematic data tracking, trend analysis, and public reporting. Our goal is to better understand coastal pollution patterns and contribute actionable insights that can inform community awareness, research, and environmental decision-making.
Our activities include:
Organized coastal cleanups at South Bay beaches (e.g., Torrance Beach)
Trash categorization and data logging
Longitudinal analysis of pollution trends
Community engagement and environmental education
Open sharing of data and findings through public reports and dashboards
SB-CEII cleanups are self-directed and community-organized, conducted in collaboration with established environmental programs such as the Heal the Bay Adopt-A-Beach Program, which supports independent cleanup efforts.
No prior experience is required. Volunteers of all backgrounds are welcome. Whether you are interested in hands-on environmental action, data-driven sustainability, or community leadership, you are encouraged to join.
Together, we aim to combine community action and environmental intelligence to create meaningful, measurable impact along our coastline.
