Walk in Bradley Palmer State Park

Details

Hello to all.

We will meet next in the main parking lot of Bradley Palmer State Park at 1:45 pm Saturday, September 7. I’ll be standing near a black VW Tiguan.

If you don’t know Bradley Palmer, Internet directions or your GPS will get you there. It’s at 40 Asbury Street, Topsfield. At a fork in the road right after you enter the park, a low brown sign with white lettering will direct you to the parking lot.

Parking for a day is $5.00 for a car with MA plates. Seniors can purchase a lifetime pass for $10.00. Tickets are purchased at a kiosk in the parking lot and must be displayed on your car’s dashboard. Visa and MasterCard are accepted. If you walk or bike to the park, entry is free.

We’ll make introductions as people arrive and start our walk at 2:00. We'll walk a loop.

This walk will be slightly more challenging than our last walk in Bradley Palmer. We'll stay on trails and climb Moon Hill. The vertical rise of Moon Hill is about 100 feet, so if you can climb ten stories in a high-rise, the walk should not be challenging. The climb up Moon Hill is not so steep that you need handholds.

We should stay together, since there are several places where people unfamiliar with the park could take a wrong turn and get lost.

Anyone who hasn't the time or inclination to walk the entire loop can walk separately on a paved road that goes through the park and can safely turn back to the parking lot without getting lost. If you want to walk for, say, 40 minutes, walk out on the paved road for 20 minutes then turn around and go back to the parking lot.

The trail walk should take less than two hours. For a walk of this length, you may not find it necessary to bring water or a snack. But of course it’s your call.

Rain is not predicted as of this writing, but Hurricane Dorian may bring some. If there is heavy rain or high wind, we may postpone the walk. Check here Saturday for any update.

I hope all of you can make it.

(We had some good discussions over dinner on Saturday, August 31, at 15 Walnut. We got acquainted with other members of the group and discussed whatever anyone wanted to bring up, which included intermittent fasting, keto diet, fats vs. carbs, upcoming travel plans, caregiving, ideas for future focused discussions, and venues for future walks.)
