Object-Relational Mapping + Test-Driven Development

Details

Our first guest speaker, Anu Sharma, has worked as a Quality Assurance Lead at Google, a Mobile Testing Specialist for Alaska Airlines, and as an IT trainer. She also co-founded the start-up Techwallet. Currently, Anu is the full-time mother of a 6-year-old son.

In hour 1, Anu will be introducing Object-Relational Mapping (ORM). ORM is a technique that lets you query and manipulate data from a database using an object-oriented paradigm. When talking about ORM, most people are referring to a library, like Hibernate for Java, that implements the Object-Relational Mapping technique, hence the phrase "an ORM". An ORM library is a completely ordinary library written in your language of choice that encapsulates the code needed to manipulate the data. As a result, you don't use SQL anymore—you interact directly with an object in the same language you're using.

In our 2, our second guest speaker, Joseph Pallechio, will give a talk on Test Driven Development (TDD) and Pair-Programming. Joseph is a graduate from Green River College's software development program and currently works as a software developer at Boeing.
