What we’re about
South Sound Birders is a community of people that appreciate birds, nature, and enjoying the outdoors together. Activities will include field trips, wildlife-oriented classes, lectures, and other events. Many of these events will be sponsored by the Black Hills Audubon Society, but you do not need to be a member of BHAS to participate. Anyone can post impromptu bird walks, chase trips for rarities, carpooling, or other non-sponsored events.

eBird Class for Beginners
Olympia Center, 222 Columbia St. NW, Olympia, WA, USCornell’s eBird application provides the platform so you can keep track of species you see, record them in lists attached to a GPS site, share this list with others and help identify species and their behaviors as well. It is an incredibly useful tool for birders of all levels to enhance their birding experiences while contributing to science and conservation.
Beginner Session: If you have not used this tool for your birding experiences, then this class is for you. Download the app on your phone and set up an eBird account before the class, and Jen and Annie will walk you through its basic offerings and best practices for submitting scientifically valuable data. Following the class session, attendees will go outside to a covered shelter along Percival Landing and create their own list of birds spotted from the boardwalk. We will walk you through the process, so it is seamless and easy to use in the future.
Instructors Jen DeSelle and Annie Burks will make it easy for you to get started and feel confident with this Birding App. Room 103 in Olympia Center.
One can sign up for either or both sessions. $20.00 per class. Register on our website or you may send a check (marked that it is for the class) to: South Sound Bird Alliance, P.O. Box 2524, Olympia, WA 98507. Questions ? Contact Deb Nickerson at debranick@gmail.com8 attendees
