All day trip to Bottle Beach and Tokeland.
This will be a great day for seeing the shorebird migration. Hundreds, if not thousands, of shorebirds will be in breeding plumage. Leaders, Lin Stern and Miles McEvoy will have spotting scopes to help see the birds. This is a great opportunity to work on shorebird identification. Beginning birders welcome!
Meet at 7:00 AM at Mud Bay Park and Ride to arrange carpools. Drive to Tokeland (1.5 hours). Scan shorebirds at the marina and Graveyard Spit.
Leave Tokeland by 10 AM for Bottle Beach. We will watch the shorebirds come in on the incoming tide at Bottle Beach two hours before the 8.2 feet high water at 12:49 PM, and hope for great views of Red Knots, Short-billed Dowitcher, Least ans Western Sandpipers, and Semipalmated and Black-bellied Plovers. April at Bottle Beach could also provide gems such as Long-billed Curlew, Ruddy Turnstones, and ??
After Bottle Beach head to Brady’s Oysters and Westport for more shorebirds. Return to Olympia late afternoon.
