The Roaring 20s was a time of The Volstead Act, the 18th Amendment, and the prohibition of alcohol. Yet behind the scenes, the public still wanted booze and the mob was more than happy to supply it. Due to the public’s thirst, bootlegging became big business and big business was big money. Combined with gambling, narcotics and prostitution, fortunes would be made. The only problem — it was all illegal.

Historical Presenter, Jim Gibbons, will discuss the arrival of FBI agent Eliot Ness to the City of Chicago. Ness will then search through the records of prohibition agents, and hand-pick a reliable team. Due to the swift work of Ness and his men, Al Capone will be indicted and charged with 5,000 Volstead Act violations. No matter how many times The Organization tried, Ness and his men could not be bribed nor intimidated. Charles Schwarz of the Chicago Daily News will soon nickname these federal agents, “The Untouchables.”

Jim Gibbons, a Marengo resident and historical presenter, has made a name for himself teaching the importance of history. Using his passion for and strong knowledge of history, Jim offers over 200 riveting presentations on topics such as: the 1958 tragedy of the Our Lady of the Angels School Fire, The Life of President Harry S. Truman, the 1963 Kennedy Assassination, the 1918 Spanish Flu Pandemic, The Life of Frank Capra, the Lincoln Assassination, Pearl Harbor, the 1909 Cherry Mine Disaster, Alexander Hamilton, Amelia Earhart, Mother Teresa; Anne Frank, Princess Diana, Dwight D. Eisenhower, The 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, World War I & World War II, The Decades Series, The Chicago Neighborhoods Series, and many, many more. Jim’s presentations have brought in audiences of over 600 both in-person and virtually. Many audience members repeatedly attend his programs through libraries, park districts, retirement communities, private venues, schools, and colleges in Illinois and nationwide. Virtually, audience members have attended from all over the United States and England. In September 2023, Jim’s name was listed in the credits of a WTTW Channel 11 Chicago Stories Broadcast called, “Angels Too.”
