Docent-Led Palassou Ridge - Open Space Preserve Secret Entrance Spring Ride

Details

Bring your own horse and come ride with Docents to Palassou Ridge Open Space Preserve (closed Area) Secret Entrance. This area is normally closed to the public and open only once a year

Join us at the parking lot and be ready to ride out at 10am. Bring water, a halter, and lunch to eat on the trail.

This is a 10 miles ride round trip, and has a number of creek crossings. We will ride about 2 miles down Coyote Creek to the stone house and then have a 3 miles climb up to the ridge to the pond.

Participants will have a choice to ride to the Stone House and back (4 level miles round trip), or continue up Timber Ridge Road to the ponds for lunch and great views. This is an approximate additional 6 miles.

After lunch, we will retrace our route back to the Hollow. We will be going behind a locked gate and need to ride as a group (or 2, depending on number of participants).

≪:::Getting There:::≫

The Coe Park Hunting Hollow entrance is located on Gilroy Hot Springs Road, the same road you take to get to Coyote Reservoir.

To get to the entrances, take Highway 101 to Gilroy (which is about 10 miles south of Morgan Hill and 25 miles south of San Jose). The distance from 101 to the Hunting Hollow entrance is about 9 miles.

Take the Leavesley Road exit (County Road G9) and head east.

After about 1.8 miles, turn left (north) on New Avenue; go a little over half a mile and then turn right (east) on Roop Road. This road is a little windy, so allow about 20 minutes drive time from the New Ave. and Roop Rd. intersection.

About 3 miles up Roop Road, you'll pass the Coyote Reservoir Road on the left. The road name changes at the turnoff to Coyote Lake from Roop to Gilroy Hot Springs Road- stay on this road.

The Hunting Hollow entrance is about 3.3 miles past the Coyote Reservoir Road turnoff.

Any questions, please message me or Chere! Thanks
