What we’re about
We welcome students and advanced western astrology enthusiasts. Our events will be free online/Zoom at least for the next few years. Our Meetup events are designed for participants who already have a basic understanding of how to interpret the planets, houses, and signs; however, if you are a beginner, our events could complement other ways you are learning astrology.
Our events are interactive online meetings rather than lectures with Q&A later. Participants are encouraged to prepare and participate. Please read the event description carefully to see what you need to do to prepare for the event, complete your registration, and receive the link to the event. I am happy to respond to any questions, concerns, or comments you have about our group. Message me, Gerald, Organizer
Participants are asked to prepare for the event by studying the learning resources (files & links) described in the event description. We apply the astrology techniques presented for the event to the participants’ charts rather than just discussing the theory of the technique. We practice “show me; don’t just tell me”. Any chart being discussed is shared on the Zoom screen for all participants to see. You choose whether or not to have your chart shown and discussed. We stay focused on the topic of the event; we do not do general chart readings for participants.
Many of our participants have said that they appreciate the welcoming and friendly atmosphere of the group and also appreciate that the members share their astrology knowledge — which is often extensive.
The astrological birth (natal) chart (complete with all the planets, houses, and signs) is not a fated description of your character, but rather like the back of a seed packet, the chart shows the conditions necessary for good growth. Another way of considering the chart is that it is a guidebook, not a guide. You make choices.
Your chart is a road map of the journey of your life -- you get to choose how you move through it: take side trips, spend more time and resources on some parts of the journey, free will decisions about how you interact with fellow travelers, etc.

===== EVENT DESCRIPTION =====
Relationship of all kinds: romantic, marriage, friends, work, family, activity partners, etc. offer positive light experience and challenging shadow experience. We will study two relationship factors that give us some understanding about how compatible and positive a relationship can be:
- How we treat each other
** View the 2 hr interview with John and Julia Gottman. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS3bfCt0K88 - Composite Chart - midpoints of the same planet in each person’s chart to create a single chart that represents the relationship.
** Listen to 10 minute audio by Steven Forrest introducing Composite charts https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/zsj5oq14sfbc51tbkx34j/Steven-Forrest-Composite-intro.mp3?rlkey=ezp1imoq1bfwze39zk85n5kxp&st=xg4p0hmz&dl=0
A well-known saying often ascribed to Aristotle suggests that ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts’. In essence, this is the nature of the Composite Chart, in that the alchemical combination of two individuals can create a relationship greater than the two. The secret is in working together to create this possibility. Hence, like the individual birth Chart, the Composite Chart holds the potential for fulfillment and each individual either takes hold of or rejects this potential. In many cases, the potential of the Composite Chart never manifests because the individuals involved are not working together to ignite the possibilities of their relationship. It’s also true that not every relationship is a positive one, much as this might be the wish. The Composite Chart can shed light on the true nature of each relationship.
** Send Gerald, organizer, berkeleyprofessor@gmail.com, birth data (date, time, city/state) — at least a few days before Meetup — for one or two people you are in a relationship with; any kind of relationship: romantic, marriage, friends, work, family, activity partners, etc.
** View your Composite chart and computer generated report; (see samples for the Gottmans and Gerald + Ellen)
