QA to Engineer Superstar & Harmonising Selenium with Playwright & Cypress

Details

We are back for 2024, and for our first meetup of the year, we have the awesome folk over at BJSS hosting us.

We have 2 talks lined up for you, and of course, lots of free drinks and pizza courtesy of our hosts for the night 🍕

Our meetups are open to anyone with an interest in Software Testing, whether you are just getting started, or a seasoned veteran. Many people come on their own and we make sure the evening is as friendly and welcoming as possible đź’š

Here’s how the evening tends to run,

Feel free to turn up from 6pm. We'll have a selection of pizza, soft drinks & alcoholic drinks available, all free of charge thanks to BJSS đź’› Grab a slice, mingle with our friendly crowd, and make some new connections. If you need an introduction, just grab our organiser Sam, or dive right in and say "hello!"

Around 6:30 we will then move onto our talks with a break for more pizza in between.

Talk 1: Sam Smith: "From QA -> Engineer -> Superstar: Crafting Quality-Centric Solutions without Code Overload"

Sam is going to be doing a talk for us about how QA's are commonly seen as "developers in hiding" and will offer some first-hand advice on where a good QA -> SDET -> Engineer journey can begin and end up.
He will talk about how to engineer solutions to assist the overall quality journey, and not just writing code for the sake of it.

Talk 2: Joseph Ward: “Harmonising Selenium with Playwright and Cypress: A Journey Through Network Event Handling

If you want to improve how you test software or use Selenium, Playwright, and Cypress in your work, this presentation will give you the information and skills you need to do better testing.

In this talk Joseph will cover how we can make automated testing better by focusing on what happens in the network layer. We'll look at how tools like Playwright and Cypress have special features that can wait for things to happen automatically, which can be backported to older Selenium versions to make tests more reliable and less likely to fail for the wrong reasons. We'll share tips on how to make tests stable, how to handle problems when tests don't work as expected, how to manage network events, and why you might want to do it.
