As to why we’re doing this. Meetup has become increasingly more irritating to use in recent months, with lots of features obscured behind a paywall, making for a poor user experience. The constant prompts to upgrade to the paid version are particularly offputting for new users. In addition, the fees to keep the group running have doubled to over £300 per year, which is particularly galling given the direction the app has gone in.

We’re not coming off Meetup anytime soon (the subscription has only recently been renewed for another 6 months) but the direction of travel will likely see us transistion over, subject to the new app Heylo proving suitable or Meetup not changing course re the above features.

Early feedback for Heylo has been good. It seems like an easy to use no thrills platform. Other groups have followed our lead and adopted it as well (ever the trailblazers!)
