"Dead Poets Society" Film at ACMI (Optional) & Chats over Drinks

Details
Welcome to our 35th event!
Join us for the viewing of "Dead Poets Society" (1989), a contemporary classic film by Peter Weir in the ACMI cinema, followed by drinks and chats at Big Esso by Mabu Mabu, featuring native Australian flavours in their teas and cocktails. Come and meet some new (or old) faces and enjoy the movie, some good company and conversation :)
"Dead Poets Society" is an inspiring drama about self-discovery, free-thinking, and the costs that can come with it. A new English teacher, acted by Robin Williams, is introduced to a strict boys preparatory school. He uses unorthodox methods to reach out to his students, who face enormous pressures from their parents and the school. With the help of poetry, the students are emboldened to new heights of self-expression, to break out of their shells, pursue their dreams and seize the day.
The film starts at 13.30 and lasts slightly over 2 hours, we'll meet by the exit afterwards and head to the Big Esso cafe-bar next door together before 4pm. Meet at the entrance of the screening hall - ACMI Cinemas, Level 2 at 13.15 and say hi before the film, we'll then head inside to find seating together or in smaller groups.
If you've already seen the film or only wish to join for part two, that's ok too :) FYO: There is a free concert at the Sidney Myer music Bowl later in the evening, perhaps some people may wish to go there afterwards.

About the film:
A brilliant cast including Ethan Hawke and Robin Williams star in Peter Weir's iconic return to the private school setting.
When charismatic English professor John Keating arrives at a strict prep school, his unconventional teaching methods breathe new life into a curriculum steeped in tradition. But Keating soon finds he has drawn the wrath of a disapproving faculty when an unexpected tragedy strikes the school.
Dead Poets Society had a big impact of its own upon its release. The film won an Academy Award for Best Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen for Tom Schulman who drew on personal experience for the film.
