What we’re about
If you build it they will come…a South Bay network of house concert and small live music venues, and all us fans who love the up close and personal music experience. This site is for music lovers of all genres to check out what's happening on the San Francisco peninsula down to San Jose. The artist talent pool is amazing. Let's build the audience!
Never been to a house concert? You're in for a treat! Defined as "true listening environments", they are typically small gatherings in the privacy of a home or small stage. Usually 30-50 people. Occasionally, like if someone has a super cool back yard, it's easy to fit in more. Every host runs things a bit different. Typically, seating is provided. But you may be asked to bring a chair or a blanket. Typically it's BYOWhatever. But, there might be social time and/or a potluck.
Guests are asked to be very respectful of the house. Stick to the concert area, be clean and no smoking.
The artist reflects the flavor of the host, from classical to singer songwriter. Don't' worry if there are just a couple rsvp's. Most experienced hosts have cultivated a mailing list. This site is an adjunct to that and to help new house concert providers get started by establishing a shared pool of fans. The more house concert venues, the more fans, the more artists who get to share their amazing talents.
Want to become a host? It really is easy. But please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Here are a couple resources: http://www.americansongwriter.com/2014/02/songwriter-u-make-real-money-donation-based-house-concerts/ http://www.concertsinyourhome.com/CIYH_HouseConcertGuidex.pdf
PLEASE NOTE!!!! Seating is limited. You are not allowed to rsvp yes and then not show. No shows are a big deal. Attendance is taken. The reputation of this meet up will be one of dependability, as if you paid for your ticket in advance.

7:00 PM Secret Oaks concertA jazz- and folk-infused string duo, Secret Oaks formed at Rocky Mountain Fiddle Camp in 2022 in one of those rare musical experiences where, from the very first notes, it was like they’d been playing together for years. While drawing on their experience in and enjoyment of just about any style of music they can get their hands on, Caroline and Daniel present an engaging show full of original tunes steeped in tradition, as well as fresh new arrangements of traditional favorites. Come join us for a fun evening of fiddle and cello!
Caroline McCaskey
A native daughter of the genre-bending West Coast music scene, Caroline McCaskey is equally at home in the traditional, improvisational, and classical music worlds. She is the 2019 U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion, and a two-time International Musical Saw Champion. Caroline is a fiddler for the dance bands Tartan Suite, Reel of Seven, StringFire!, and Greenwich Mean Time. She performs regularly with Boston-based guitarist and banjo player Larry Unger.
In demand as a teacher and performer throughout North America and author of the AltStrings Fiddle Method, she holds degrees in music composition and performance, as well as Suzuki teaching certification in violin and cello. AltStringsAcademy.com, created and led by Caroline, is a learning community for amateur adult string players who are ready to build their technique, style, and musicianship skills.
Just this year, Caroline succeeded Alasdair Fraser as Music Director of the San Francisco Scottish Fiddlers. As a performer, composer, teacher, recording artist, and U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion, the San Francisco Scottish Fiddlers welcome Caroline as the right person at the right time to carry on Alasdair's vision and lead the quest to "follow the fiddle."Daniel Delaney
Multi-style cellist Daniel Delaney is an improvisor, composer, singer-songwriter, and rhythm player. He has performed throughout the U.S. as a concerto soloist, band leader, recording artist, chamber musician, and clinician. Sought after as cello and chamber music faculty for camps and colleges across the country, he’s also the creator of the Groove Cello Academy which trains creative cellists in the art of rhythm play and jamming. Daniel has been recorded for popular projects by BeachSlang (Polyvinyl), Elvira Nikolaisen (SONY), mewithoutYou (Tooth and Nail), Twin Sister (Domino), Sun Airway (Dead Oceans), and many others. His songs and compositions have been called “cowboy music,” “hero music,” “epic,” “funky,” and “groovy.” The Philadelphia Inquirer called him a “master musician” and Broadway World a “world class cellist.”

You are all invited to join us in closing out the evening with a
group rendition of the Ookpik WaltzJoin us for a unique house concert experience. Many of you already know Joe Weed, and are familiar with his music. He lives in the Santa Cruz Mountains where he records in his Highland Studio. You may think of Joe as a great fiddler, long-time supporter of the Santa Clara Valley Fiddlers Association, and an entertaining raconteur. Nationally he is known as a producer, composer, musician, and film-maker.
Local fiddlers frequently play the Ookpik Waltz, but they may not know anything more than the title of this waltz . Myths abound about the exotic origin of The Ookpik Waltz (or is it You Pick? or U-Pick? Ute-Pick?).
Joe’s research reveals the tune’s actual history, restoring credit to Ukrainian-Canadian musician Frankie Rodgers, who wrote the Ookpik Waltz in the mid 1960s. Joe’s film also takes a close-up look at the country music scene in western Canada in the 1950s and 60s, and the influence of popular music from south of the border — the U.S. - Canadian border, that is. Listeners today barely recognize the original Ookpik that Rodgers wrote. Why? Joeexplores the fascinating story of fiddlers transforming
the piece into the popular“standard” wellknown today.Joe has released seven albums of his own, produced projects for independent artists and labels, and composed scores for film, TV and museums. Ken Burns’ documentary “The Mayo Clinic” includes
Joe’s production with British guitar virtuoso Martin Simpson, and Burns’“The American Buffalo” includes a Joe Weed original, “Hymn to the Big Sky.” Joe’s compositions grace the films and exhibits at the
National Steinbeck Center in Salinas, California and at The Lincoln Museum. In 2018, Joe released “Two Steps West of the Mississippi,” a collection of his original instrumental music based on American fiddle roots.
Joe’s film “The Waltz to Westphalia” traces the origins and development of the Polish wedding song that traveled the US, eventually becoming “The Westphalia Waltz,” now a standard of Texas fiddling.
This pic of Marty and Joe on their bicycles is in Spain near Gibraltar, with Africa in the background. For over 10 years, Marty and Joe have been spending four months each year in Europe, riding their bicycles. Marty posts photos, and Joe posts videos of the beautiful places they see, all synched to his own compositions.
