What we’re about
If you build it they will come…a South Bay network of house concert and small live music venues, and all us fans who love the up close and personal music experience. This site is for music lovers of all genres to check out what's happening on the San Francisco peninsula down to San Jose. The artist talent pool is amazing. Let's build the audience!
Never been to a house concert? You're in for a treat! Defined as "true listening environments", they are typically small gatherings in the privacy of a home or small stage. Usually 30-50 people. Occasionally, like if someone has a super cool back yard, it's easy to fit in more. Every host runs things a bit different. Typically, seating is provided. But you may be asked to bring a chair or a blanket. Typically it's BYOWhatever. But, there might be social time and/or a potluck.
Guests are asked to be very respectful of the house. Stick to the concert area, be clean and no smoking.
The artist reflects the flavor of the host, from classical to singer songwriter. Don't' worry if there are just a couple rsvp's. Most experienced hosts have cultivated a mailing list. This site is an adjunct to that and to help new house concert providers get started by establishing a shared pool of fans. The more house concert venues, the more fans, the more artists who get to share their amazing talents.
Want to become a host? It really is easy. But please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Here are a couple resources: http://www.americansongwriter.com/2014/02/songwriter-u-make-real-money-donation-based-house-concerts/ http://www.concertsinyourhome.com/CIYH_HouseConcertGuidex.pdf
PLEASE NOTE!!!! Seating is limited. You are not allowed to rsvp yes and then not show. No shows are a big deal. Attendance is taken. The reputation of this meet up will be one of dependability, as if you paid for your ticket in advance.

You are all invited to join us in closing out the evening with a
group rendition of the Ookpik WaltzJoin us for a unique house concert experience. Many of you already know Joe Weed, and are familiar with his music. He lives in the Santa Cruz Mountains where he records in his Highland Studio. You may think of Joe as a great fiddler, long-time supporter of the Santa Clara Valley Fiddlers Association, and an entertaining raconteur. Nationally he is known as a producer, composer, musician, and film-maker.
Local fiddlers frequently play the Ookpik Waltz, but they may not know anything more than the title of this waltz . Myths abound about the exotic origin of The Ookpik Waltz (or is it You Pick? or U-Pick? Ute-Pick?).
Joe’s research reveals the tune’s actual history, restoring credit to Ukrainian-Canadian musician Frankie Rodgers, who wrote the Ookpik Waltz in the mid 1960s. Joe’s film also takes a close-up look at the country music scene in western Canada in the 1950s and 60s, and the influence of popular music from south of the border — the U.S. - Canadian border, that is. Listeners today barely recognize the original Ookpik that Rodgers wrote. Why? Joeexplores the fascinating story of fiddlers transforming
the piece into the popular“standard” wellknown today.Joe has released seven albums of his own, produced projects for independent artists and labels, and composed scores for film, TV and museums. Ken Burns’ documentary “The Mayo Clinic” includes
Joe’s production with British guitar virtuoso Martin Simpson, and Burns’“The American Buffalo” includes a Joe Weed original, “Hymn to the Big Sky.” Joe’s compositions grace the films and exhibits at the
National Steinbeck Center in Salinas, California and at The Lincoln Museum. In 2018, Joe released “Two Steps West of the Mississippi,” a collection of his original instrumental music based on American fiddle roots.
Joe’s film “The Waltz to Westphalia” traces the origins and development of the Polish wedding song that traveled the US, eventually becoming “The Westphalia Waltz,” now a standard of Texas fiddling.
This pic of Marty and Joe on their bicycles is in Spain near Gibraltar, with Africa in the background. For over 10 years, Marty and Joe have been spending four months each year in Europe, riding their bicycles. Marty posts photos, and Joe posts videos of the beautiful places they see, all synched to his own compositions.
- Wolf Jett - Saratoga Music Series - 19 July 7 PM - WAITLIST ONLYSaratoga Music Series, Saratoga, CA
Due to the super enthusiasm for this group, I must close the event signup now. HOWEVER, email me (see address below) to get on the WAITLIST. In general, I am usually able to accommodate all but you would need to wait until the week before to be notified. Added as possible in order of receipt.
The sound of Wolf Jett will make you dance, sing… and possibly even howl!
Their all-original songs are an upbeat celebration, infusing folk, soul and Americana into what they call "Cosmic Mountain Music.” Co-founded by two life-long friends and musical partners, Wolf Jett combines the southern-fried vocals of Tennessee-born frontman Chris Jones with Jon Payne’s endlessly groovy drums. They perform with Duncan Shipton on bass, plus their wolf pack family of female vocalists Allyson Makuch/Laura T Lewis, electric guitarists Rory Cloud/Will Fourt, and occasional keys by Alex Jordan and others. Click on MUSIC SAMPLES HERE and for more information, go to WolfJett.com. Details provided to RSVP attendees within a week of the performance, NOTE: These fill up fast resulting in Waitlisting. You are encouraged to sign up early. Attendance may be monitored to discourage "no shows" taking slots for others. Not open - Gabe Lee at the FogHouseThe Fog(less) House, San Mateo, CA
Equal parts classic songwriter and modern-day storyteller, Gabe Lee has built his own bridge between country, folk and rock. Lee has been collecting stories for years, both onstage and off. "I used to bartend," says the Nashville-based songwriter, "which means I was also a cheap therapist for whomever happened to be sitting on the barstool. Whether they were there to celebrate or drink away their problems, I heard about whatever they were going through. It was my job to have that face-to-face interaction — that connection. Being a full-time musician isn't much different."
With critically-acclaimed albums like 2019's farmland, 2020's Honky-Tonk Hell, and 2022's The Hometown Kid, Lee created that connection by delivering his own stories to an ever-growing audience. His fourth record, Drink the River, takes a different approach. This time, Lee isn't offering listeners a peek into his internal world; he's holding up a mirror to reflect their own.
Storytelling has been an anchor of Lee's music since the very beginning. Raised by Taiwanese parents in Nashville, TN, he left home during his teenage years and headed to Indiana, where he obtained college degrees in literature and journalism. Lee launched his career as a genre-bending musician after returning to Tennessee, quickly progressing from dive bar gigs to high-profile opening slots (including shows with Jason Isbell, Los Lobos, and other artists who, like him, blurred the lines between roots-rock, country, and other forms of American folk music) to his own headlining shows. Throughout it all, he drew upon the narrative skills he'd sharpened as a student. If albums like Honky-Tonk Hell and The Hometown Kid often unfolded like autobiographical entries from his road journal, then Drink the River shows an even broader range of his storytelling abilities. Lee isn't just writing songs about himself; he's writing songs about all of us. And maybe, in doing so, he can bring us a little closer together.
Nashville has some really great artists coming up, one of these is native son Gabe Lee.
