Huddart Park Hike to Kings Mountain Art Fair

Details

"The Kings Mountain Art Fair is an annual event, held every Labor Day weekend. The Art Fair benefits the Kings Mountain Volunteer Fire Brigade and other community activities, including the Kings Mountain Elementary School, and is staffed completely by volunteers from the local community." Here's a link to information about the art fair: http://www.kingsmountainartfair.org/

The Hike:
We'll hike about 4.5 miles (mostly uphill for about 1400 feet of total elevation gain) to the fair located on Skyline (Highway 35). We'll take Crystal Springs Trail to Dean Trail which will connect us with Chinquapin trail; then we'll take Skyline trail to Lonely Trail (Phleger Estate) which will take us to the fair. We'll explore the fair and take the same trails back to our cars (almost all downhill) ....about 9-10 miles for the day depending on how much exploring of the fair you do. As always, dress in layers, bring plenty of water, hat and sunscreen are recommended. The hike is mostly in the shade.

Since we are starting this hike at 8:30, we will arrive at the fair between when breakfast and lunch are available, so don't count on purchasing any food at the fair (although some snacks might be available, like those gigantic cookies!) So bring your own snack.

Restrooms are available at both ends of the hike.

There is a day use fee at Huddart of $6.

Some of you may want to arrange carpools. We may arrange different group departure times from the fair for those wishing to stay longer to explore. Think about that when you arrange your carpools.

Directions to Huddart Park:
The lat/lon for the Zweirlein Picnic Area is 37°26'29.6"N 122°17'27.0"W
(Plus code: CPR5+JMF Woodside, California).
From the north or south, take highway 280 to Woodside Rd. Exit the highway going west into the town of Woodside. Go through the town of Woodside (1.6 mi) and turn right on to King's Mountain Rd. Stay on King's Mountain road as it winds up the hill (2.4mi). The entrance to the park will be on your right. Pay your day use fee and follow the signs to the Zwierlein picnic area. The lower parking lot to the right of the restrooms is a good place to look for parking first. That's where the trail head is. Remember, this is a holiday weekend but hopefully we will be there before the picnic lunch crowd arrives. If not, park where you can and walk to Zwierlein.
