Moss Beach/Princeton, 8 mi, mostly flat

Details

Difficulty: Moderate

Distance: Approx 8 miles

Elevation: Mostly flat with occasional short slopes

About the park: The hike will start at the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve in Moss Beach. Please note that Moss Beach is on Highway 1 north of Half Moon Bay; it is not on Highway 1 south of Santa Cruz, that is Moss Landing.

Hike Description: This is an easy hike for the South Bay Ramblers. We'll be walking on a combination of dirt trails and paved streets. The hike is mostly exposed and we'll be walking near the ocean.

The hike starts at the parking lot for the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve in Moss Beach (not Moss Landing). We'll walk from the reserve to Pillar Point and then to the Johnson Pier in El Granada. It's mostly an out and back.

Directions to Trail Head: The lat/lon for the reserve parking lot is 37.523984,-122.516257

Here's one way to get to the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve parking lot: from 280 take Highway 92 west towards Half Moon Bay. Take 92 all the way to Highway 1 and turn right onto Highway 1. In about 6 miles turn left onto Vermont Ave in Moss Beach. Vermont Ave turns right and becomes Lake Street. The parking lot will be on your right (at the intersection of Lake Street and Nevada Ave.).

Bathroom: There is a bathroom in the parking lot.
