It may get hot, so I've changed the hike from Hunting Hollow. We will meet at Henry Coe Headquarters instead. This hike is shorter, 7.5 miles, and easier, 800 feet elevation change. It is also more shaded. Best of all, Park HQ can sell you cold soda at the end!

ROUTE
From the HQ we'll hike down to Frog Lake, then ascend to Middle Ridge and return on Fish Trail. This is 7.7 miles and 1280 feet.

  1. From HQ take Corral Trail to junction (0.6 miles)
  2. Flat Frog Trail to Frog Lake (2.3 miles)
  3. Frog Lake Trail to Middle Ridge (1.0 miles)
  4. Middle Ridge (turn right) to Fish Trail (1.3 miles)
  5. Fish Trail to Corral Trail (1.9 miles)
  6. Return to HQ (0.6 miles)

When we start we'll decide if we want to go in the reverse direction. If we go in reverse it is possible to shorten the hike by 1.5 miles, but increase the climb to 1600 feet. Taking this route we would return from Frog Lake along Hobbs Road which is only 0.8 miles instead of 2.3 miles on Flat Frog Trail (last year we returned on Flat Frog). Since both trails lead back to HQ, people could choose either trail.
DIRECTIONS: Park at Henry Coe HQ. The fee is $8, or $7 for seniors.
Use map to get you there. You will take E. Dunne Road exit off 101.
