Details

When considering coastal paddling it’s important to know about Navigation, how to cross channels and stay safe in a group. Possessing a good efficient forward stroke is key as well, so you don’t tire out over the course of the day. We will touch on all of these topics in this one-day course.

Instruction to include:

  • On-water navigation
  • Efficient paddling for touring
  • Group paddling dynamics and communication
  • Additional topics based on student input and available teaching elements

Gear requirements:
14'+ sit-in kayak with spray skirt; strongly suggest 16'+ kayaks

  • PFD
  • Paddle
  • Immersion-level clothing - remember, the water will still be quite chilly at the beginning of June! This means wetsuit layers at a minimum; drysuit if you have one, or some combination of the two (wetsuit pants, dry or semi-dry top). While I have no intention of us getting wet, well... stuff happens.
  • Dry clothes in drybag
  • Food and drink for yourself for the day - we will not be returning to the launch until the end of the programming day
  • Paddle Float
  • Bilge Pump

Suggested gear:

Optional gear:

  • Tow belt

This course is typically be $160 per day. Tai Grosjean is offering a 10% discount and SMSKN is subsidizing 30%. Participants pay $95
